I understand what he's trying to imply,
but there have been so many great boxers that SHOULD HAVE been champions, but never were. It's ridiculous to believe so-and-so WOULD HAVE been champions, but they never boxed. Too many intangibles. Bruce was an amazing martial artist, but maybe Bruce had a 'China chin', no pun intended. Maybe he was a bleeder. Maybe 'movie star' Bruce could not dedicate himself to the spartan regime it takes to be a world-class boxer. Doing roadwork is not as much fun as mastering some katas. I'm just playing the devil's advocate. I like Bruce, but boxing is the roughest business there is.
