Comments Thread For: Frank Warren: Yarde Facing Burton Would Be Massive Step Back

ANTHONY YARDE is facing unbeaten Ryan Ford instead of British light-heavyweight rival Hosea Burton because it's better for his career. What would he have got out of facing Burton, who was stopped by Frank Buglioni in just his second to last fight? We wanted to face British light-heavyweight champion Buglioni now and made an offer to the Londoner. But we never even heard back and were then told by the British Boxing Board of Control that Yarde against Burton was being made as a final eliminator.

    Ok Warren.

Burton is a massive step back from Biryani and Chris Hobbs

Ricky Summers on the other hand would have been a big step up and massive test?

Ford is apparently decent enough so I dont mind it. Burton would have been better for me personally because of his height and boxing ability, and just the fact i know him and how good he is first hand.

Burton was beating old Frank if I remember rightly. Plus he'd be the best guy Yarde had fought clearly.

If he had just said it would be a step back it would still be bad but his use of the word "massive" makes this statement even more laughable.
No one is gonna buy that Frank.

I hate this narrative being thrown about Burton and this fight being a step back. It's a really good fight and would be Yarde's toughest test to date. I watched Burton Buglioni and it was one of my favourite fights of 2016, arguably one of the fights of the year. Burton was CLEARLY winning the fight until he gassed out and got hurt late in the 12th rd, in which he got stopped. Buglioni basically needed a stoppage or several knockdowns in that round to win the fight. The difference between Burton and Buglioni is not much as the fight was still very competitive. I would definetly like to see the fight and how he would deal with someone as tall as Burton. If Yarde beats him, it then makes the Buglioni fight bigger as they now how have a common opponent, which you can compare performances with. As of right now we don't how good Yarde is because we don't know anyone that he's fought, Burton would bring that. If anything they should of fought Ricky Summers instead of this Ford guy, if that was a possibility in September. Yarde is a big prospect for BT Sport, so they cannot afford to let him fight on Sky. They would maybe entertain the fight on BT sport but they aren't willing to pay what Hearn and Sky are. The Buglioni fight is a great fight to make and is stylistically easier for Yarde than Burton fight is. I still don't know if I believe that Yarde is 6ft because he was listed at 5ft 9 on boxrec before (I know boxrec makes mistakes). I would have to see him stood next to Buglioni or someone who I know is definetly 6ft or taller to make a judgement on his true height. Some people have said that he looks short in person, some say he looks 6ft. Weird. Beating Burton would mean he earned his shot for the British title. Either way Burton or Buglioni I don't care which one gets made, as long as one does.
