The Casuals new Mayweather vs Berto was a crappy fight That's why the PPV was so low, even though it was Mayweather last fight. Supposedly. Everyone knows this is mismatch and just a circus. The result will speak for themselves.

Boxing fans and media are the worst in sports always looking to drag down the sport and hold it back. Hate to say it but Hardcore fans don't amount to Sh.it they didn't support Ward /Kov but have the nerve to say boxing fans shouldn't support this. Who cares by the looks of it if every hardcore boxing fan boycotted this fight it would only mean what something like 150k less PPVs.
Those guys are ranked boxers, tell me, what's Connor McGregors boxing ranking?

Nothing wrong with this fight. Choose to watch or not. It's entertainment, and it will be a very successful event financially. Boxing needs the attention, or continue to be hid away where very few people watch a good fight like Ward-Kovalev. It's true, if Pacquiao got a fight with McGregor and was paid $100m or somewhere near that amount, Arum would be ecstatic, and so would Manny. Same with Canelo; if he got this fight instead of taking on GGG, and with McGregor it's so much of a bigger paycheck, then he would have been counting his lucky stars, and Oscar would say it's the best fight in the world.

Who cares what Mcgregors ranked, this is a circus fight aimed at casuals. And from the #s Ward / Kovalev GGG / Jaciobs hardcore boxing fans don't support the sport when it's the best fighting the best so why not go for a fight that attracts casuals.

Canelo / Smith was a absolute joke disguised as a legitimate PPV boxing match. Smith is lucky if he's a top 25 154. Canelo went down in weight to make that joke of a fight. When was the last time a figter did that ? Maybe Chad Dawson but he went to down to face the #1 guy in Ward.

Crawford / Postol while a good fight to see who was the #1 guy at 140 It Shouldnt really have been a PPV ( I bought it ). The fights barely did more #s then Mosely /Mayorga.

Why cater to hardcore boxing fans when they've shown they rarely support the sport

I don't remember fans asking for it. This is an exhibition fight and everyone knows it.

“The hardcore fan is the reason why our sport isn’t where football and basketball are"
Yeah, the only fans left who have stayed with the sport through all the corruption, fixed fights, and mismatches, it must be their fault boxing isn't where the NFL and NBA are. Not the fact that in boxing, you have to pay $70 to watch what turn out to be ****ty products 95% of the time, while in the NFL and NBA, you get to watch great products either nightly or weekly for free. Nah, it's not that. It's not the fixed fights and paid off refs and judges ruining great events, and even taking all the action out of the product by allowing holding all night, either. Nah, it's the fans fault.... right. Sure Leonard, sure.

And for the record, the NBA started calling fouls more strictly to allow for more scoring, which has corresponded to better ratings. The NFL changed the rules to limit what defenses can do to allow for more scoring, which has also corresponded to better ratings.

But in boxing, the rulebook is literally ignored so that each promoter's star boxers can get scored on (hit) less. Did they expect that to lead to higher ratings? Lol. And Ellerbe promotes the textbook example, the boxer who holds more than almost anyone and yet never gets points taken. So as usual the people in power in boxing have everything 100% backwards, the exact opposite of how things really are, and as a result, the sport has lost popularity and will continue to do so until the people in power in boxing realize they have things wrong, not the fans, and make the necessary changes to bring fans back, the same way the NBA and NFL and even NHL after 2005 did.

The only other major sport to either make changes, or fail to make changes, that have resulted in less scoring, not more, is baseball, and wouldn't you know it, that's the only other sport to plummet in ratings like boxing has. So you do the math.
