He'll be considering retirement around 33 - 34. The time is now to make moves. He's a fabulous boxer but your argument ignores context.

Still, I would have liked to see the Hall of Fame inductions get moved to ESPN2 instead.
If they scheduled that channel and time slot for boxing then they should have honored the schedule.
These are still pretty bad numbers considering all that.
On the other hand, the UFC card won the night with 1.1 mill viewers I believe. It was just bad planning and bad luck all around with this event.

Originally posted by North Star View PostAgreed. The HOF show running way over and guide listing for ESPN2 had WTA listed, probably messed up more than a few home viewers. But people that tend to watch ESPN know that they move around programming when running into live issues. I figured as much and found the card pretty quickly, but I can see how some folks would just shut the TV off or switch to something else if what was planned program wasn't being shown.

He pretty much had Loma's fight in a tiny theater where GB used to have there Fight Club series, where prospects fought.

Loma is a great talent but could you even say that he would be as accomplished of a fighter as Manny or Floyd by 29?
Manny at 29 beat MAB and was in the verge of becoming lineal superfeatherweight against JMM. His fourth lineal crown.
He's nowhere near those two at the same age.

Too bad that more viewers didn't get to see Lomo, their loss. I agree with most comments about low viewership; time, ESPN/ESPN2 double switch, name recognition, etc. All Lomo can do is to keep boxing the way he does, it's up to the promoter to get media attention for Lomo. I too want to see Lomo/Rigo but it won't work as a PPV. A fight between two 2-time Olympic Gold Medalist, two of the best P4P boxers and neither one or collectively has enough of the casual public's name recognition to make a big fight. No one that I know outside of boxing's hardcore fans are familiar with either. All the coverage each gets here and on other boxing sites doesn't mean a thing, we already know and appreciate them. The promoters need to get them out into the public/sports fans eyes. More sitting at ringside of fights, publicly attending sports events, etc where they can be seen and talked up. It's a hard job to publicize two fighters from foreign countries, neither of whom speaks good English. Also, ESPN doesn't do as good of a job promoting their fights as other networks, HBO and Showtime blitz the media and advertise on other non-affiliated networks as well.
