Comments Thread For: Golovkin's Coach: Charlo Has To Earn Shot, Not in Jacobs' Class!

I'm no fan of Stevenson, but he just came off a KO win of Fonfara. A guy who beat one of Gvodzyk's best opponents. I see Gvodzyk doing great things at 175, but in reference to the original thread topic, I don't see how Charlo (who I think will one day rule 160) jumps to the head of the line when (a) he is not a draw, and (b) other's deserve a shot before him such as Saunders or a Jacob's rematch. But, that is jumping ahead of everything because we don't know the outcome of GGG/Canelo. That fight could possibly warrant a rematch as well.
Charlo spent most of 154 against lack luster opponents. He can't be entitled to the same easy ride at 160.Comment

Abel is too ****** to be worried.
I think it's BS what Abel is saying. Don't sit and cry about being Canelo mandatory and then when the shoe is on the other foot, talk about, He hasnt earned it...
I think the fight needs a little building, marinating as Oscar would say. But don't say the man hasnt earned his shot. That's disrespectfulComment

GG is too old to be marinating fights.
I'd agree if he were 25 instead of 35.Comment

Charlo is a good fighter, but he must wait until GGG beats Canelo. After beating Canela, if GGG can't get WBO champ, then he will beat Charlo with pleasure.Wade didn't have to build his name...
....nor did Adama
They didn't even have names to build
...but GGG was quick to fight THEM.
Why does GG have to fight other fights????
It's funny how all of a sudden GG's mandatory opponents have to earn additional credentials to face him.Comment

[He earned the shot] by fighting who? What does that mean that he's a mandatory? That he deserves a shot? He's got to earn his shot. We sat for Felix Sturm for two years. We sat for Sergio Martinez for two years. These guys all of a sudden think that they deserve a shot at the winner of Golovkin and Canelo - they're crazy. They've got to earn it," Sanchez told BoxingScene.com.
man ya'll cried to the WBC over "mandatory" **** now you wanna say this?Comment

It is pretty simple for me. Charlo doesn't deserve to be fighting for the MW title in his next fight. He was never the man at 154lbs. He has no big name opponents on his resume. He has maybe one or two good wins. He jumped in weight class and beat a middle tier (not even top 10 ranked by Ring Magazine) opponent. Charlo's a very good fighter IMO but that doesn't warrant fighting for the title at MW. Now he goes and fights a few more guys, or maybe he just beats Jacobs, then come talk to me about deserving a shot at the champion.
Those asking what Golovkin did to earn the title, he's spent 11 years in the division and has fought his way to the top. He had to wait and watch as he was avoided for years. Just now is he facing the lineal champion. Wasn't his fault that Canelo decided to drop the title. I wouldn't want Charlo to go through the BS like Golovkin did but simply asking him to fight a guy or two of note in the MW division is hardly asking too much. Again he has time to fight some worthwhile fighters while Golovkin and Canelo do their thing. Hopefully Charlo is smart enough to recognize until he proves more in the ring there isn't going to be a serious outcry that he should be fighting Golovkin (assuming he wins). And the WBC isn't going to be in any rush to push Charlo to fight Golovkin if that is what he is banking on.Comment

I don't think neither GGG, nor Canelo will be targeting Charlo. I think the winner will seek a unification with BJ Saunders, unless Saunders loses. We already know Canelo won't fight Charlo for a WBC title, so that only leaves GGG. Maybe if GGG loses, he will face Charlo, but I doubt it!Comment

I agree there. I mean like 1 maybe 2 fights between. At the same time, assuming he beats Canelo, if there's no Saunders, Jacobs, or a decent name at 168, Charlo is the fight I want to see.
I think it's funny to see my fellow GGG fans sounding just like Canelo fans did last year... "who has he fought?... we don't need him..."Comment
