Comments Thread For: Wladimir Klitschko Gets The Timing Right

By Tris Dixon - THERE was a period when only a connoisseur of this sport would want to watch a Wladimir Klitschko fight. He was always big business in the Ukraine and Germany, but that did not spread much further afield. He did not connect with those who liked the blood to flow, the fights competitive and the art of all out war...

He left at the best time possible for himself. Legend for certain.

Cool video of Teddy Atlas rating Klitschko in his place of Heavyweight history.

Wlad threw the Fury fight and made some say $50 million betting

Don't feel for Wlad bailing on another Joshua KO loss in November. Wlad made his retirement money off the Throw of the Fury fight as did most Ukraine's. Joshua flat out Ko'd Wlad in a great fight between two warriors. Why get Ko'd again? No point in it outside of more millions but 3 defeats in a row is a sad ending. Wlad will be remembered for fighting mostly smaller bums over 12 years. Joshua is what Boxing needed anyway.

A Royalty & Pagentry era to be remebered..

For anyone who has been to a Klitschko event would know the sense & feel they were part of a royalty & pageantry event. The K-Brothers gave a lot back to their fans. I remembered going to an after-party event the K-Brothers gave that attracted thousands for complimentary food, drinks & dancing. I don't see many star fighters returning that back to the average fan. An Era will be remembered... God bless you CHAMPs!

There are many boxers who became legends because they fought and beat 3-5 guys who are HOF worthy themselves. Then there are many boxers who became legends because they dominated for quite a long time against guys who were just contenders/top 5/10 kind of opponents, but never quite of great status.

I think both are valid as you're not always given some golden era, but your dominance should be noted and rewarded.

Passing the torch kind of raises Wlad's stock in terms of respect. It's still a loss, but him annointing Joshua as the heir kind of makes it easier to WANT a guy like him in the HOF without question.

Great fighter but he's not a top 10 Heavyweight of All Time, neither is his brother Vitali.

They didn't have that guy or guys in their era to define them. It's not their fault. But it is what it is.

Top 5-6 ATG imo. I don't see a case for dispute. Absolutely unbeatable in his prime years.
