Comments Thread For: Carl Frampton Will Be Better After First Defeat, Says McGuigan

Barry McGuigan has backed Carl Frampton (23-1, 14 KOs) to bounce back as strong as ever from his first professional defeat. Last Saturday he was scheduled to meet Mexico's Andres Gutierrez (35-1-1, 25 early) at Belfast's SSE Arena live on Channel 5, but the contest was called off with less than 24 hours to go - after Gutierrez slipped in the shower and suffered numerous injuries.

It is kinda wacko isn't it? A solid A fighter has one off night... some casual calls him a B fighter. Typical. What Frampton needs to do is just study the tapes of the second fight, get properly prepared for the 3rd match, be ready with a couple alternate fight plans, and he should do fine. He certainly showed he has the talent in the first fight.

And somewhere along the way, get the Selby fight made. That's the one most fans want to see him take anyway.

By B-level maybe he meant not elite. Frampton and LSC are very good but at least a class below some recent featherweight champions such as Mikey Garcia and Lomachenko. I would favour Gary Russell Jr. over both.

I don't think he meant what you're trying to say he meant, but makes no difference really. I saw the Frampton/LSC first fight as a masterful example of boxing from Frampton. But it's fine if you disagree. Selby may be a step down from Frampton, but IMO Frampton is an A class fighter. And will prove it in the 3rd LSC fight if it happens. And a Russell Jr fight is a tossup IMO.
