Comments Thread For: Trainer: Broner Followed Garcia Too Much, Went To Body Too Late

Mike Stafford, trainer of former four division world champion Adrien Broner (33-3, 24 KOs), believes his fighter started way too late in Saturday's loss to Mikey Garcia (37-0, 30 KOs) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Broner was outworked and lost the majority of the rounds in the twelve round decision battle -with scores of 117-111 and 116-112 twice.

Based on what I saw Broner did start way too late, but he was backing up most of the fight

I felt he did in the late rounds for sure.

Broner didnt have any success till Mikey slowed down a bit. We have to remember Mikey Garcia has only gone 12 rounds once in his career and that was about 4 years ago. So Broner didnt start/do anything Mikey slowed down the mental pressure and broner was able to let a few punches go. Nothing hurt or bothered Mikey he stood his ground after every body shot flurry attempt by broner and took back the command of the fight after each flurry.

In the last three rounds, Broner through some left hooks to the body and Garcia reacted in a...strange way. The pop on Garcia's punches certainly wasn't the same in the last third of the fight. Fight could've been a lot more interesting if Broner let his hands go more. But he didn't because that's not what Broner does.

I don't believe he really followed Mikey.. to me it look like Mikey backed him up and he was retreating most of the fight

He was getting in the first rounds any time he went to the body

Garcia landed a nice left hook in the third that drove broner awawy

Isnt it the trainers job to direct Broner to go to the body early? What exactly was the gameplan? Or lack thereof. Just awful. Broner wont ever get to the next level with a trainer he doesnt respect

People need to stop with the excuses and just accept he was never great. He was pretty good but he just isnt on the level most were led to believe. Mikey was the rightful favorite and he proved why.
