Comments Thread For: Schaefer: Santa Cruz vs. Mares II Announcement Getting Close

According to promoter Richard Schaefer of Ringstar Sports, an announcement is getting very close for the mandatory rematch between WBA featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz and challenger Abner Mares. Mares (30-2-1, 15 KOs) scored a knockdown on pace to winning a twelve round split decision over Argentina's Jesus Cuellar (28-2, 21 KOs) to win the WBA's "regular" featherweight title December 10 at USC's Galen Center in Los Angeles.

Mares is still a very good fighter, but do y'all remember back when he climbed as high as #4 on some P4P lists? And I'm not talking about b-scene fan lists, lol. I'm talking about legitimate P4P lists.

Who gives a *** cares about this fight. They both ducked Rigo and Loma. These two dont even fight Gary Russell.

Donaire was pretty high on those P4P lists back then as well. He went up to 5th I think. I know he had a run but those were weird times
