James Toney winning Michigan State title (mentions Iceman)

A must-see for all Toney fans, and may be of interest to Rockin and Iceman.

In the post-fight interview, Toney is asked which middleweights he wants to target and says "John Scully, Kevin Watts or Reggie Johnson".

I remember that night because that was the first time in my life I ever saw or heard the name JAMES TONEY. The next day everybody was saying "Did you see that guy call u out on TV last night?????"

Back then when he was inexperienced I definitely think I could have beaten him. But he ended up a year later or so taking it to a whole new level.

I was just looking over your career, you are pretty impressive. I'm sure you have been asked alot on this site but, but was your toughest fight, who was the hardest puncher you faced?

You know...when I think of hardest punchers... the name of a guy I beat in the amateurs and sparred with as a pro always comes to mind: LAMAR "KIDFIRE" PARKS. Punch for punch, blow for blow, he had more power than any guy my weight I ever sparred or fought including Roy Jones

Parks looked like an exciting prospect, and a nice win over world-class Lenzie Morgan who dwarfed him. Parks seemed quite heavy-handed, and would of given the G-Man something to think about it..

It's a great shame that you never got the chance to face Toney. As you said, he was inexperienced then and you could have schooled him real good!

Damn shame about Parks. I saw him againt Gilbert Baptiste and in his title shot against then WBA Middleweight champ Reggie Johnson. I'd read somewhere that he'd contracted HIV or had full blown AIDS, can't remember which; but it's a damn shame either way. He was impressive.

Lamar contracted HIV but is still doing pretty well right now. I still keep in touch with him and he is training boxers down in S.C. He scored some very good wins in his career and was going to be a world champion I am sure
