An openly gay professor once told us in class that gay people use the words "gay" and "f@g" the same way straight men do. He specifically gave examples like "that's gay" and "what a f@g".
Thanks for this info, lol. I've actually wondered about this.

I've noticed that it's actually straight people who make the most noise about use of gay insults. I get the impression gay people don't actually care. They care about direct discrimination towards them I think. I bet they're weirded out about all the overprotection like this situation where you can't call someone else gay as an insult or else it means you hate them. I think it's all about giant companies trying to win over society to sell their product better. You're politically correct, you get people happy, and happy people back your company.
They are "outraged" but it is fake. Some organization that is supportive of LGBT has to react otherwise they are not doing their 'job' and will get crap for not doing what they are supposed to do.
Some uk politician came out and said the N word the other day. She got crapped upon - and rightly so. But tell me, which is worse, saying the N word or killing civilians in Yemen, Iraq and Syria? All the politicians came out and crucified the conservative politician for saying something racist (that hurts people feelings and creates difficulties for black people) but very few come out and condemn a missile that hits a hospital and kills 30 people.
They come out and condemn the N word because it is the "right thing to do" and if they don't they will lose support among the electorate but somehow criticizing civilian strikes is not the right thing to do. Hmmm.
Agreed it is such an easy win for politicians asking for apologies or condemning poor behaviour from individuals.
I hate that culture they have of asking for apologies. It is another thing that doesn't happen in real life. You're either sorry or you're not. The only time you ask someone to say sorry they're a child and they've probably hit their sister.
