THE British Boxing Board of Control has condemned a racist slur aimed at Ohara Davies from the crowd after his loss to Josh Taylor at Braehead Arena.
TV microphones picked up the yob calling Davies a “f***ing black b***ard”.
The board’s general secretary Robert Smith said in a statement he was saddened by the incident which took place in the immediate aftermath of Saturday’s super-lightweight bout, broadcast live on Channel 5.
He told SunSport Online: “It is extremely disappointing that anybody at any event would say such comments or express such thoughts.
“The British Boxing Board of Control are totally against such behaviour.”
Several fans watching the broadcast heard the abuse and today brought it to Davies’ attention on Twitter.
He replied: “A few idiots in the crowd of thousands don’t speak for a whole nation, to lose is a part of life, but to still hear this in 2017 is sad.”
Trainer Billy Nelson – who worked with ex-world champ Ricky Burns until 2014 – was also appalled.
He wrote: “I agree 100 per cent, no place for comments like that in society, disgusting.”
