Comments Thread For: Arum Reacts To WBO Backing Horn's Shocker Over Pacquiao

Two weeks ago, Australian Jeff Horn pulled off a shock welterweight title victory over Manny Pacquiao - but there was a lot of controversy over the scorecards [115-113, 115-113, 117-111] and there were many who felt Pacquiao should have been the victor.

I thought Bob Arum was a smart promoter? So how is it smart to have a 38 year old continue to fight men who outweigh him by 15 pounds in the ring? Let Pacquiao fight at 135, there are more fan friendly fights down there anyway. And if you want to take him on a world tour, how big would Pacquiao-Linares be in Linares home country? Or Pacquiao-Lomachenko in the Ukraine?

They just want to suck money off him by keeping him in the "money division" 147 even though it's ruining the last decade of Pacquiao's career, and probably hastening his decline by taking punishment from bigger guys constantly. As I said, I thought they were smart? 147 is not the "money division," the money division is wherever the stars like Floyd or Pacquiao fight. The Floyd rematch isn't happening anymore so move Pacquiao to 135 and that will be the new money division.

So then so far 8 judges have actually watched the fight and six had it for Horn, PAC fans are really reaching now.

Please do a tournament at 135.

            PACQUIAO-LINARES winner vs EASTER-TUNEUP winner.

LOMACHENKO-FLANAGAN/VERDEJO winner vs MIKEY GARCIA-WHOEVER winner

You should end up with PACQUIAO-EASTER and GARCIA-LOMACHENKO, then ideally PACQUIAO-LOMACHENKO for all four lightweight belts and the #1 pound for pound spot. Now that is the way to finish a legendary career, not fighting guys 20 pounds bigger than you who walk through almost all your punches. Instead of trying to be this aging Roy Jones Jr. style fighter fighting bigger guys as his speed and stamina leave him can no longer support that style, Pacquiao could be the GGG of the 135 pound division and not have to rely on punch output he no longer has to win. Instead opponents would actually have to respect his power again.

All Pacquiao fans are desperate to see what he could do against guys his own size again, or even a little bit smaller! Everyone else gets to fight smaller guys sometimes in their division, why wouldn't you try to get Pacquiao that advantage sometime too considering he's 38? I just don't get Bob Arum's strategy. He is wasting Pacquiao's career by keeping him in the wrong weight class.

Hey Bob, Todd, PLEASE STOP WASTING THE END OF PACQUIAO'S CAREER IN THE WRONG WEIGHT CLASS. BEFORE HE RETIRES, LET'S SEE WHAT HE CAN STILL DO AGAINST GUYS ACTUALLY HIS SIZE, AT 135. SIGNED, PACQUIAO FANS.

It seems like everyone who watches this fight without Teddy Atlas' commentary reaches the same conclusion.

That's never ever going to happen. Manny will fight Horn in rematch in Australia and bank another healthy paycheck. He made approx $10m dollars in the first fight and i expect the rematch to be bigger so he will get a big purse. The facts are Manny is only fighting for the money now, and none of the guys at 135 are going to give him those paydays. I think he could try and get the winner of Broner-Garcia at 140, which would definitely sell and we could see Manny fight at a more natural weight.

I follow your logic, up until the suggestion of a tournament. Make Pacquiao vs. Lomachenko @ 135, ASAP! In-house fight, should be very easy to make! WBC is already pushing for Garcia vs. Linares, so if Pac beats Loma, and wants to continue, then let him fight the winner! However, I feel there's no need to delay Pacquiao vs. Lomachenko!
