Comments Thread For: Omar Figueroa Concedes: "My Mind Needed a Break"

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - Addiction. The folks at Merriam-Webster have a clinical definition for it: "(The) compulsive need for and use of a habit-forming substance characterized by tolerance and by well-defined physiological symptoms upon withdrawal." Thing is, it also fits the way Omar Figueroa Jr. feels about boxing. "We're crazy. We're insane. We're masochists," he said. "I really have no other way of explaining why we love to put ourselves though this...

Omar Figueroa Jr. imo is one sloppy ass fighter. His fight against Burns wasn't bad, but this kid should watch guys like Linares and fancy proper footwork. To me Figueroa Jr. is like Rios 2.0 just charging forward but with more saved stamina and endurance. Just slugging haymakers back and forth. This kid got tagged so many times by DeMarco... Their fight at 151 was super entertaining, but Figueroa Jr. better think twice going against top elites when the title shot arises again. I foresee him getting knocked out by hard hitting 147 pounders rather easily, cause DeMarco don't got snap at 147 ffs and Figueroa Jr. was hurt...

I feel like Figueroa's style isn't going to work against a big guy who's not averse to close range slugging matches himself like Guerrero. But then again, Guerrero is kinda shot. Probably a 50 / 50 matchup. I don't think either of these guys can have too much hope of doing anything at the top level.

I wonder how much the rest has helped his brittle hands... fighting at a higher weight we will see what happens... the ghost is used to close in fighting has a lot of experience but it's just about shot completely I'm not excited about the fight but I will watch it...

Good for Omar. Take some time off. Do you for a while. Now you can get back to your job. I envy people who can take time off from their jobs like this to get their head right.

I can't wait for him to come back.
