and let me add that for hopkins to stay at middleweight for all these years it was a must, for him to be in shape 24-7

Roy Jones was ripped at light-heavy, but he wasn't a natural light-heavy. Hopkins stays in shape 24-7 because he's a professional, unlike a lot of fighters who go fatass between fights and hurt themselves tryin' to get back down in 6-8 weeks.

I really don't know much about margaritos weight or training to comment on him. For some reason a lot of people think fighters should move up in weight-classes all the time. I'd rather see a guy pick a weight-class, stay in shape and clean the division out.

jones was ripped, but skinny, with in time he filled out at light heavyweight, hopkins their looks like a light heavyweight

and yes its true a fighter should stay in shape 24-7 but very rare this happens, but as i said, for hopkins to maintain his middlweight it was a must for him to stay in shape 24-7 no matter what and this chose great charector by hopkins but that fact is he couldn't let himself go

Five years, from age 17. Got out when he was 22, determined to make a fresh start (he converted to Islam when he was in jail). He started boxing again when he was inside, winning the 1985 and 1987 Philadelphia State prison in the 178lb division - Jeff Chandler trained him in jail. He had showed good potential as a boxer when he won the 1974 Pennsylvania Junior Olympics, but then only boxed occasionally until he was in jail.

His amateur record was 95-4, made up entirely of junior bouts and prison bouts.

I think the fight in the video is at super-middle, according to boxrec, I think. They only list his first fight as light-heavy, but Bouie picked him up after that and probably got him into much better shape.

no, the video says 171, thats light heavyweight, bouie is a smart man, he saw an oppertunity at middleweight with his good fighter and they dropped to middleweight to dominate

Fair enough. I still don't think it's a really strong argument because in good shape he sits below 170, and in fighting shape he makes 160, and probably without a great deal of difficulty. It's the guys that are sitting in saunas for hours on end pre-fight on a consistent basis that should be moving up in divisions. You do hav e a point though, in that Bouie obviously recognized Hopkins would do much better in a lower weight division.

Side note: Does anyone know if the weights listed on boxrec are weigh-in or fight night weights?
