    Wtf happened to Gamboa though?

He is so irrelevant now, just lost to some can on free tv i didnt even know he was fighting to be honest. Not that long ago this guy was a total beast and very talented fighter. He had hands speed, power and combos. Was very good.

How did he become so bad? Was it the crawford fight? I dont want to accuse a fighter of steroids but i heard some fans say he isnt juicing anymore. (not my words).

    Dude seems like wasted potential.

It's sad. He was one of my fav fighter and he made so.many bad decisions. Fighting Crawford at a weight he was not confortable was the nail in the coffin... And signing to 50 cents

            A couple of things:

1.) He was a flawed fighter from the beginning. Very exciting, but got knocked down several times, had a hard time transitioning from an amateur style to a pro style. Once he got older, he got more vulnerable because he never had the fundamentals down.

2.) Inactivity due to poor management/ promotional company.

A fighter like Gamboa, who relies so heavily on reflexes, has to be active. He can't just be fighting once a year.

If he hadnt ducked Rios and played hookie with Arum, he would have had many more fights than he did. He made a huge mistake that cost him. Two fighters almost met up, two different careers with Rios willing to fight anyone, anywhere, and Gamboa turning away from a big fight, one fighter in Rios made for great TV on prime time, went on to make great money in high profile fights including the Pac fight. The other in Gamboa fought on small shows. It all boils down to career choices.

He had a trainer that knew how to handle him in the ring (Salas). He dropped that trainer and has been fighting on instinct ever since (probably training on instinct too).

Because of that, his flaws never got ironed out and took unnecessary punishment at the hands of larger fighters.

All of that + all the promotional/managerial BS = Gamboa of today

Get Gamboa a real trainer that will discipline his in-ring performance and he can mount a good comeback.
