How is this cheat still fighting? It's clear I don't understand the rules regarding failed drug tests. Has he even been banned?

Promoter Andriy Ryabinsky has revealed the WBA and WBO have reinstated Povetkin to the rankings after all the major bodies removed the Russian for a failed test in the WBC Clean Boxing Program.

The WBC and IBF are yet to reveal if they would follow suit, although Ryabinsky now wants the matter put to bed ahead of Povetkin's return against Andrey Rudenko on July 1 in Moscow.

"Povetkin will be boxing (for the future) for sure," Ryabinsky told TASS.com.

"The World Boxing Council (WBC) is starting to hear out our side of the story, and I think they will take some measures but there are no timelines.

"Povetkin has been reinstated in the WBA and WBO, and the titles are on the line (on July 1 in Moscow)."

WBO is way less strict about drug testing and nobody cares about WBA, so this isn't surprising. The WBC is the most strict of them all and the IBF is just covering their own asses.


Either way, he can fight as long as it's sanctioned under WBA or WBO as much as he cares to.

Since Joshua is IBF champion, having that fight almost guarantees Joshua would be stripped of the IBF title because they wouldn't sanction it, and since that's his pride and joy, the fight just won't happen. Pulev is his next mandatory anyway.
