  • Comments Thread For: Ward-Kovalev Rematch Replay Peaked at 947K Viewers on HBO

The Nielsen numbers reflected just how much interest there was in the controversial conclusion to the Andre Ward-Sergey Kovalev rematch. According to ratings released Wednesday morning by Nielsen Media Research, HBO's replay of Ward-Kovalev 2 on Saturday night drew a peak viewership of 947,000 during the eighth and final round. The average audience for the replay was 752,000.

According to compubox Kovalev has now outlanded Ward in over 2/3 of the rounds they've fought. This fight demands another immediate rematch. I just hope Ward and HBO aren't so greedy that they put off the rematch because the PPV sales were low. Ward is not going to do any better on PPV with anyone else because no one wants to pay to see the same fighter foul and cheat and hold in every fight with what looks like a bought off referee every single time to let him get away with whatever he wants. As long as Ward is a protected fighter who gets to cheat and spoil all night and avoid having to fight, he is never going to get more than 130,000 to pay for his fights.

I mean, Kovalev-Ward I was the best fight of Ward's career, and yet 30,000 less people tuned in for the rematch. That's because Ward's career is a fabricated joke. Ken Hershman even admitted it, that he set up the Super 6 with beneficial styles to Ward, and left out Bute and the Dirrells, because he was trying to turn Ward into "Showtime's Mayweather." His whole career has been manufactured. Boone didn't just drop him, Boone beat him but they robbed Boone just like they robbed Kovalev.

So 130k might seem disappointing, but that is amazing for an Andre Ward fight. The rematch with Kovalev is still the biggest fight he can make outside of Joshua at heavyweight, and we all know Virgil likes to sell bull**** to distract from their cheating, so I'll believe that one when I see it. And whether Joshua happens or not, it doesn't change the fact Kovalev has been robbed twice and deserves a third fight much more than even Juan Manuel Marquez deserved a fourth fight against Pacquiao despite officially never beating him in the first three. So it should go without saying given what we witnessed, but there's also precedent for this to go along with basic common sense.

Ward has been on US TV for a decade. Lomachenko has been for a couple years. And as you just admitted, Loma does as well as Ward in the ratings when he's fighting no names as Ward does fighting one of the most exciting fighters in the sport and another regular HBO A-side in Sergey Kovalev.

So yeah you just argued against yourself. Well done. But don't worry I am happy to keep discussing this with you if you want. I'll just have to hype you up a bit so people will still have interest in the next round of our debate after this whitewash in round one.

"No no, BoxingAdict is actually improving a lot! If I'm not on my toes for every round, he could point out a typo I make or some **** and then showboat, and that could fool some dumb judges, of which there are a lot on NSB. BoxingAdict is a determined, hungry young lion!"

        Lol

Man, you have the biggest problem with Ward. No one wants to see a 3rd fight except a select few. It's time for both of them to move forward. Kov pretty much admitted that Ward was better and he is looking for another trainer with possibly moving up to CW. Let it go, man. There won't be a 3rd fight between them and there really doesn't need to be one...

By putting it on PPV they limited the audience and the exposure for the fighters.

What are you talking about Bute didn't want to enter the tournament and Andre Direll was in the tournament and was suppose to fight Ward but couldn't because of the DQ KO Arthur Abraham gave him. Actually the tournament was suppose to favor the Europeans Froch, Kessler, and Abraham
