It would have the biggest boxers of every 20/30 years.

    Johnson, Robinson, Ali, Tyson.

If that's your criteria Dempsey was a MUCH bigger star and greater contributor to the sport.

Don King, Bob Arum, Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

You need money to build a monument. If not them, the government would have to finance it and we know how the government loves Joe Louis and Muhammad Ali.

I'm assuming it has to be an American fighter since it's an American landmark. George Foreman because he most represents the spirit of America, the stuggle against all odds and adversity.

I think some of you guys are mistaking his status as the first AA Heavyweight champ for being one of the all time best to ever compete.

Jackie Robinson was not greater than Ted Williams, Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle or even Roberto Clemente and no baseball fan would bring social politics into a discussion like this.

By bigger star do you mean more popular? Johnson was very well known but very hated. Hard to judge who was more famous unless you was alive back then.

As far as contribution to boxing, Johnson revolutionised boxing with his style.

Not at all. If you've spent any time at all reading about or watching programming having to do with prewar boxing it's not even a discussion. Jack Dempsey was one of the biggest icons in the history of America of any type. He's in the top ten for ALL sports. Not just boxing.

Being an icon and more popular doesn't mean you're more famous. Especially back in those days. Everyone would have known Johnson too, he was just hated instead of loved.
