LAS VEGAS Kathy Duva doesn't know who Sergey Kovalev will fight next, but she has an idea when he'll return to the ring. Duva, whose company promotes Kovalev, expects the former light heavyweight champion to fight sometime in November. "That's the plan," said Duva, chief executive officer for Main Events. "The plan was for him to come back in November, win or lose [against Andre Ward]. There was never a question. He still has a contract with HBO."

He needs a tune up fight before even thinking of a Belt.... All the top guys now know what to do to make him quit... Stevenson as an awesome body work and I'd say all those body shots from Ward would have assured Kovalev wearing a bag on his side for the rest of his life coming from Stevenson...

Also... Kovalev should shred his contract with Duva/Main-Events and look for better support somewhere else ...

Stevenson or Beterbiev would be great opponents. Probably not the best move to throw him in with those guys in 5 months doe, but I suppose Kovalev is burning daylight & probably barely got paid due to his deal for this fight so he needs to make $ while he still can. I suspect we'll get the biggest fight possible & it probably will be Steveson or Beterbiev if those guys really want it.

If I was Team Kovalev, I would try to get a fight with Eleider Alvarez since both guys are ranked in the WBC, beat Alvarez and become Stevenson's mandatory. Knowing Stevenson wouldn't fight Kovalev, he would vacate and thus give Kovalev a shot at a vacant belt & revitalize his career.
