Been watching boxing since 23 years, ladies and gentlemen. That last round was a farce. Yes, Ward did better in this fight than in the first (which he definitely lost). I had it even going into the 8th round.
Would Kovalev have been hit with that right hand in the 8th, if he wasn't hurt from the low blow(s) before which the ref did not call?
I am not sure really. Fact is the stoppage happened after 3 illegal lowblows. Furthermore, even if the ref (for whatever reason) REALLY thought, they were NOT low, then there is STILL no reason to wave off the fight because there was no knockdown or anything like that. Malignaggi said it the way it was in the Sky broadcast.
