I'm seeing people claim the body shots that hurt him in the middle of the 8th were low. They were NOT.
First thing that jumped at me during the in-ring face off was that kovalev's body looked soft. He wasn't prepared mentally or physically for this fight. Hopefully kovalev fights gvozdyk/smith/ beterbiev next and ward gets stevenson.
Ward could've finished him right there, but let him off the hook.
Kovalev was already a beaten fighter and being in with a guy like Ward, he will finish you.
The end was inevitable, if the ref gave him an eight count I think Ward would've eventually stopped him in a more spectacular fashion, but he wasn't defending or answering punches and the Ref called it.
You have to understand, it wasn't just the last few punches that swayed the refs mind.
He's seeing Kovalev buckling from body shots like the ones in this GIF, hes seeing hes near done already.
The Ref thought he'd had enough.
