Who are some athletes from other sports who would make for good boxers? I say basketball players because of their height and reach.
Athletes from other sports who would be good at boxing.

MLB pitchers seem most likely to understand how to use their hips, lower body, torso, and elasticity in their arms to create power.
Basketball players, wrestlers would get the conditioning part down but as someone who was a basketball player for many years, I can tell you that most of us just do not like to fight.Comment

Andy Murray.
Carefully managed Middleweight who has to drain himself from a higher weight as he's scared of the big hitters (packing scottish glass)
loves boxing, would have a ton of heart, feather fisted but get's stoppages due to an accumulation of punches.
Win's a European title and challenges for a world title but get's KO'd.

Interesting question.
From non-combat sports? Probably basketball players, because of the reasons you mentioned (height/reach) +stamina, footwork, speed, coordination, etc.
Heavier guys like pro Football players (American Football) are just built wrong for Boxing, better suited for WWE. Too much muscle mass in the wrong areas for a fighter. Gas out quick. Dead man walking.
What I would like to see, is a capable pro skater give it a go. Stamina? Check. Speed/footwork/coordination? Check. (next level sht). Most of these guys are the ones with the massive tree trunk thighs & calves that can deliver that power. Just an opinion.Comment

For boxing you can be a great athlete you also need a chin . Your probably thinking this because of Wilder who has he fought the guy is the most spoon fed Alphabet Champ of all time he has never made a title defense against anyone in the top 10 or top 20Comment

Boxing is unique. You don't know how any non boxing athlete will do until he tries boxing. Can he punch and take a punch? Can't he stand the pain. Can he box? It doesn't matter how well he plays basketball. These questions can only be answered in the ring. I am sure many of boxing greatest fighters were no good at basketball, baseball or football.Comment

i think there are prob a ton of guys in the nfl that, given theyve trained from a young age for boxing, would be really good......the problem alot of guys have this perception that american football players cant be good because they rarely succeed....but most of the guys you see giving it a try are basically washouts from the college ranks...they arent top level football playersInteresting question.

if you took a guy like cameron wake...or joey bosa...and had them training in a boxing gym from a young age they would probably be very good......but you usually end up with gerald washingtons and seth mitchell who didnt make it past the collegiate levelComment
