Comments Thread For: Loeffler: A lot of Hard Work, Patience For Golovkin To Land Canelo

It took five long years, from the moment he made his televised debut on HBO, but Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) has finally secured a major pay-per-view fight in Las Vegas. After nearly two years of hype, Golovkin will defend his IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight titles against Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs) on September 16th at T-Mobile Arena, and on HBO Pay-Per-View.

“We were offering the biggest paydays of their careers, and no one wanted to get in the ring with (Golovkin),” Loeffler said. “It was a challenge. I’ve never seen such a resistance for somebody who has multiple world titles. I’ve never experienced that, and I’ve been involved over 25 years in boxing. It’s always been the top fighters want to fight the other champions or at least see who is the best.”
Yep. Willie Monroe Jr had never gotten paid $100,000 before.

Honestly, I think I feel bad for Golovkin. The Canelo fight will be his first foot out the door as far as his boxing career goes.

He's 35 and his time is coming to a close.

I think Canelo is going to light him up. People are going to be shocked.

Tom Loeffler has done the best managing job of the decade to take a guy from Kazakhstan who can barely speak English and turn him into a household name.

I'm glad Golovkin is finally getting this opportunity. If we see the boogeyman this September it's lights out for Canelo. Should be a good scrap either way.

With a ton of help from the media. He's gotten passes for things other boxers would've gotten ridiculed for. You'd think some of them were being paid and their websites funded

Being a professional will do that. You speak to anyone in boxing business and they'll rave about how great of a person Tom Loeffler is. When you do things the right way, behave professionally, respect the media, good things will happen. It's not some secret formula or some hidden agenda.

GGG did it the way real men do it if the A side of boxing is in your division you don't wait around for a mandatory that may never come

You fight anyone willing especially all the belt holders. You win all the belts you watch the A side melt down to JM to avoid you And fight night he weighs light heavy against JM and welters moving up to JM
