Comments Thread For: Ward Won't Play Up USA vs. Russia Angle for Sake of Promotion

It would be very easy, considering the current political climate in the United States, to promote the Andre Ward-Sergey Kovalev rematch as the United States versus Russia. The 33-year-old Ward won a gold medal for the U.S. at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens and the Hayward, California, native is widely viewed as the best active American boxer in the sport. The 34-year-old Kovalev (30-1-1, 26 KOs), the ruthless Russian knockout artist who has promised to end Ward's career, clearly is comfortable playing the role of villain.

Well Kovalev and his team have been playing it since they lost the fight. They should've used that angle to sell this fight. ****** not to take advantage of that situation knowing how much Russia is in the news.

Ward willn't do anything to promote the later he'll say hw got underpaid. He should learn from May considering his boxing style

It's nice to see Ward take the igh road, but this is why Roc Nation is failing. Floyd (and Roger) took advantage of the USA vs. Mexico narrative. He even took over the Cinco de Mayo weekend, when he took over the #1 spot from Oscar De La Hoya! That's why GBP is shi*ting in their pants over fears that Mayweather vs. McGregor would eclipse the Canelo vs. GGG fight. The job of Ward is to win. The job of Roc Nation is to promote the fight in a manner that brings in the most revenue!

Sometimes I don't know how to feel about Andre Ward. Someone with his talents and accolades should hands down be the biggest star in world boxing but his fighting style and personality have prevented that from happening. I should admire him for sticking to his principles and staying true to himself but I dont feel any way about him.

I like the fact that he doesn't c**n it up like mayweather and broner because I like to see black men successful without resorting to that but **** me he's boring as ****

Even if he doesn't feel like this is a "USA vs Russia" situation just play up to it and sell the fight. Give yourself the commercial success your career deserves.
