  • Comments Thread For: Terry Flanagan vs. Felix Verdejo Looms For The Fall in Manchester

There will be no interim-fight or venue advantage for Felix 'El Diamante' Verdejo in his first world title fight. Bob Arum, founder of Top Rank and promoter Verdejo, and Frank Warren, promoter of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) lightweight champion Terry Flanagan, are in deep negotiations to finalize a deal for September 9 in Manchester, England. This was confirmed by both promoters in separate interviews with reporter Jose Sanchez.

Strange that Arum would be negotiating this fight in Manchester as Verdejo has put a lot of butts in seats in NYC.

Is he wondering if it's sink or swim time for Verdejo?

Think its gunna be a pretty big card, suspect Fury/Parker will be headlining.

His last few performances have been horrible so my guess is Arum figures England maximizes the profit for this fight, whether it headlines a smaller venue or is the co main to a HWT fight.

No I understand it will be big in Manchester. But as you know taking a young kid out of his home for his first title is risky. Particularly risky with someone like Verdejo who has a huge following and can potentially be the next big PR star.

I agree with your premise it just seems that Arum seems to have changed his thinking. Prior t the poor performances I think Arum felt he had the next Tito or Cotto. I'm not sure if he still feels as strongly about Verdejo anymore.

Verdejo has been out of sorts of late, i think he beats Flanagan however.
