This actually makes so much sense I can't believe no one has thought of it before. Imagine if you ran the mob and you wanted the best enforcers possible. What better way than to send them to an MMA gym and train them professionally? It provides a great cover for the enforcers like they're just training for UFC, nothing else, and it provides extra income too. A mob boss could even buy a big MMA gym and just train all their guys there. It wouldn't surprise me if a lot more MMA guys and boxers aren't connected for that reason, although I certainly hope the sports are more pure than what this is having me imagine.
