Comments Thread For: Hunter: My Time Away From Camp Didn't Hurt Ward; He's A Pro

Virgil Hunter isn't concerned about his week away from Andre Ward's training camp. The veteran trainer, who has worked with Ward since Ward was 9 years old, wouldn't have left last week if Hunter thought it would've had a negative impact on Ward's preparation for his light heavyweight championship rematch against Sergey Kovalev. Hunter reminded reporters during a conference call Wednesday that Ward is an experienced pro and did everything he needed to do while Hunter traveled to France and Canada to work corners for other fighters he trains on back-to-back nights last weekend.

Hunter sure wasn't of much use to Fonfara. Fonfara didn't look like he had a clue as to what to do when fighting a southpaw.

Virgil is not a trainer for everybody, certain personalities and mindsets don't mesh well with him. Russians should find either a Russian trainer or Mexican. Slickness is not their strong suit.

        That won't work

The mexican trainer would be too busy worshiping the russian fighter to properly train him.

he wasn't much use to fonfara, hasn't benefitted khan, berto or angulo either for that matter. Ward really is his only success story. Very impressive since he coached him since 9 yrs old but otherwise, his track record isn't very good.
