  • Comments Thread For: Money, Opportunity Made Monaghan Take Browne Bout

Sean Monaghan had hoped to challenge Adonis Stevenson for the WBC light heavyweight title this spring. Once negotiations for a Stevenson-Monaghan match at Nassau Coliseum fell apart, Monaghan was presented with two choices. Monaghan could've fought unbeaten but unknown Swedish contender Erik Skoglund (26-0, 12 KOs) or another undefeated fighter with whom he is much more familiar Marcus Browne (19-0, 14 KOs).

Should be an interesting fight. Tired of hearing that bum Skoglunds name pop up stop giving him publicity. He fought an over the hill Glen Johnson and lost but got a vicious home town decision then was asked to fight Beterbiev in a title eliminator since he is high on the IBF rankings and declined. Instead he posts pictures every day on his instagram of tasty food and model poises. 27 and has accomplished nothing.

I believe it but even if he was juiced up Ward would dominate this guy. Dude has no punching power, basic boxing ability and is more focused on being an instagram model than a fighter. Remember he was supposed to be a tune up for Ward. Pretty disrespectful for someone to say your a tune up for them and not go in their and beat his ass to make him respect you. Guy is a domestic Euro level fighter, don't see him winning a world title in 168 or 175

Avoiding Beterbiev was a smart move cause he would get killed at this point by beterbiev like the rest of the LWH division would. You have to remember that Skoglund has a big promoter in Sauerland backing him in Europe which Monaghan doesnt have plus Monaghan is 35 years old and doesnt have time to wait around. Skoglund is only 26 years and still developing, he is not ready for top 10 yet.

Big risk low reward for both. Winner won't move up drastically. Problem is you can't wait for cherry picking ducking Stevenson have to be his mandatory keep busy fight medium fighters can't jeopardize mandatory slot against top fighter for low $ have to check if they are mandatories

Good scrap for the leftover spots in the standings... Gonna swap between 7th and 10th on the list for the rest of their careers... all good though, we can't have Championship fights every week...
