Comparing this to Garcia-Salka is off base. At this stage of his career, this is actually a dangerous fight for Cotto. Miguel is still a great sharpshooter when he sets the pace but Kamegai is a physically strong pressure fighter who punches in bunches and is difficult to discourage. Could make for uncomfortable moments if it goes to the second half. At this point, Cotto has nothing left to prove, he's an aging former multiple division champion who has earned his spot in the hall of fame. Right now, anytime he steps in with a younger, hungry fighter he is taking a risk.

After this fight Kamegai can fight a couple of soft touches then guys like Guerrero in a rematch, Margarito, Andre Berto. Those would be good fights for Kamegai.
8th round stoppage? you know kamegai has never come close to getting stopped right? and cotto just aint the heavy puncher that can do it. if anything, i have kamegai winning by a late tko.

Kamegai has lost to Johan Perez, Robert Guerrero and Alfonso Gomez.

Has a draw with Jorge "Pantera" Silva and Soto Karass.

And he just knocked out Soto Karass in the rematch in his last fight.

There are levels to this and Kamegai has never fought anyone on Cotto's level.

He's a good opponent considering Cotto's situation, but I doubt Kamegai gets to see round 12.

Either Kamegai's corner or the ref will stop the fight is probably the most likely scenario. Kamegai will give a good fight and have his moments, but Cotto is on a different level than him. That's just my opinion on how I see it.

Anyone who can draw with and knock out a Soto Karass is not exactly a pushover.
Good comeback fight for Cotto...after a long period of inactivity.
At his age it will tell us how much he still has left.

              Better than Floyd's McConnor fight.

Yeah it's absurd to say this is a Garcia-Salka type fight. Considering that Kamegai is coming off his best career win by knocking out Soto-Karass, the same Soto-Karass that knocked Andre Berto out.

It is a good fight for Cotto considering his long 21 month layoff to shake off the rust and see where he is right now.

Kamegai is definitely a hungry fighter, not young fighter at 34 years old but definitely hungry and knows that this is his opportunity of a lifetime to catapult his career. So yeah, I expect to see the best Kamegai show up.

                Rod Salka this is not!

                  you said late stoppage!

those lost were by UD. kamegai has never been stopped before and cotto aint gonna be the one to do it. cotto doent have the power or the pace to push the fight to score a tko win. cotto fights at such a slow pace.

Cotto should win this fight because he is more skilled but Kamegai will make it entertaining for however long it goes. He is limited but a action come first brawler and he has never been stopped. If age or rust has diminished Cotto and he gets suckered into a brawl this could be a LONG night for Cotto. I like this fight better then Kirkland because Kamagai is NOT coming off a Knockout, doesn't have a questionable chin and most importantly this fight is free on HBO where the Kirkland fight was going to be PPV. Comparing this to Salka is just ******. Kamagai is better then Salka and Cotto is coming off a loss and long layoff.
