Comments Thread For: Jackson: Ward Has To Make More Adjustments Than Kovalev Does

There is a perception that going into their June 17th rematch that Andre Ward (31-0, 15 KOs) has the capability to make the necessary to adjustments needed to swing the fight clearly in his favor but not Sergey Kovalev (30-1, 26 KOs). Which amuses Kovalev's trainer.

If Ward won the majority of the rounds 6-12 and fought the next 12 the same way, wouldn't he win the majority of the next 12...logically speaking.

Even still, Kovalevs adjustments may be fewer, but they are harder to make.

I agree but I also think JDJ wants Ward to be more aggressive in the rematch because it would play into Kovalev's hands as it would leave Ward open for more power shots.

So, the guy who adjusted and started winning is the guy who has to make more adjustments?

I disagree with that Kovalev has more to adjust. but there also IS more he can adjust. after round 6 he assumed he won all 6 with the knockdown and just had to stay on his feet. and won what maybe one more round arguably 2. two more of the last 6 would have been enough for me to give him the nod. but Kovalev did so little in the last half. the first have of the fight he loooked amazing then he was coasting. I could see how some people have kovalev winning 114-113 but anything wider than that I just dont see.

Flawed logic, though. Ward won rounds in the 2nd half due to the way he was fighting then AND the way Kovalev was/wasn't fighting in the 2nd half. You assume Kovalev will be slower, tired, and lacking from the start of the 2nd fight.

Kovalev is the one that went up to Big Bear which he didn't do the first fight. He also got a new strength and conditioning coach.... He has already made more adjustments than Ward because he needed to and the fight hasn't even started yet. LOL.

                    Effective Aggression

If effective aggression had been given the priority in the judge's minds that it always should be in a world title fight, Ward certainly wouldn't have been given the decision. A champion who displays effective aggression in defending his title should never lose the title to a pitty pat runner who manages to survive, IMHO.
