  • Comments Thread For: Spence: 'Can't See Why' Thurman's Next Fight Can't Be Against Me

NEW YORK Errol Spence Jr. doesn't expect to face Keith Thurman in his next fight. That's only because Spence wants to return to the ring much sooner than Thurman can compete again because he had surgery six weeks ago to remove calcium deposits from his right elbow. Spence sees no reason, however, why Thurman would need a tune-up fight once he's healed.

True he should fight Spence to unify but to expect after surgery and a 6 month layoff that Thurman wouldn't test out the elbow in a tuneup is ******

I am a huge Spence fan, but after surgery, I give the benefit of the doubt with a tune-up. You don't want that injury to be a problem for this fight because you want to determine who the best is... With that being said, when Thurman had his neck injury in that car crash, he didn't need a tune-up for Porter. He didn't need a tune-up for DSG and pretty much had a pretty long layoff. The amount of layoff isn't the problem or shouldn't be used as an excuse. However, making sure that his elbow is goo is valid... although the timing of this surgery is crazy convenient. I'm backing Spence in this fight.

The eventual superfight could be Spence vs Crawford, but in order to make it as big as it can be, Spence will need to take out Thurman to establish welterweight dominance while Crawford takes out pac in order to bring his popularity to another level. Combine that with getting solid wins in between over other welterweights like Danny Garcia and Shawn porter and Spence vs Crawford can become a credible welterweight ppv match up similar to Leonard vs hearns & Oscar vs tito. They won't be as popular as those 4 but it can be as intriguing a match up.

Wtf you guys talking about tune up fight? Was thurman knocked out cold? Only time people get tune ups is if they been retired for a long time or just got put to sleep bad. Thurman just had bone chips removed, and why would he need a tune up, if his arm aint good he risks losing in that tune up, might as well face spence if he is gonna take a loss.

I have a feeling thurman wants the winner of pacquiao horn next, he said he wants horn to win somhe rooting for horn.

I've been saying this to anyone who will listen. That definitely has the potential to be a superfight if certain fights happen first.

Tune up? These are professionals. Thurman's tune up can be in the gym sparring after he rests up from surgery. Also, they're both champions. That's not really necessary at the highest level of competition, imho.

                  I agree with Errol.

The Crawford v. Spence idea is fantastic. That would be a great scrap. Whoever was crowned the victor would have a very compelling case for P4P #1.
