  • Comments Thread For: Duva: Ward-Kovalev 2 Sells Self; Don't Need Soap Opera Plots

Kathy Duva doesn't deny that there are times when a boxing promoter must manufacture drama to help sell a fight. She just doesn't consider the upcoming Andre Ward-Sergey Kovalev rematch one of those instances. Duva took issue with Josh Dubin, Ward's attorney and adviser, and James Prince, Ward's manager, turning their discussions with Kovalev's trainer, John David Jackson, about switching sides into a promotional plot line for their June 17 rematch in Las Vegas.

When has Duva done anything at all to promote a fight? Promoter is just a title she has, I don't recall her doing anthing to get her fighters names out there. She doesn't promote at all

She's not a good promoter. This type of fight should be doing at least 1 mil PPV buys. Ward and Kov could be making 10 mil a piece.

I'm not her biggest fan but Ward is the reason it's not getting 1 mil plus buys. He's p4p number 1, American, gold medal winner and been undefeated since he was 13. Reading those accolades alone he should be the biggest star in the world and if he had been promoted properly and made the right career decisions he would be.

Duva is a sham promoter. How is Kovalev not making excuses if he keeps talking about being overtrained?

I like how she took a shot at Bob Arum, though. I guess Conlan's fight in Chicago didn't sell well?

If he was a loudmouth bafoon then he would be incredibly popular. Foolishness gets popularity these days, not being clean cut and respectful. The only humble nice guys that sold could also knock fools out, Ward isn't stopping anybody

It's a fight that sells to hardcore fans easily but not casuals. Nothing wrong with that, not every fight resonates with casuals..
