You know, I think Kovalev flat out destroying Ward is much more likely than most think. I don't expect it, but I think there's a better chance Ward gets flattened easily than Ward wins easily.

Hmmm...how about seeing it thus way....Ward ducks the jab and comes in to close distance to bring the fight inside. Kovalev pushes Wards head down to slow him down and negate any effect of a body punch. Kovalev initiates a clinch to force a reset. Ward makes sure that the tactic at least cost Kovalev some energy by putting his weight on Kovalevs waist.
As for Wards head being down while he's coming in to close distance..its called hiding your chin. It serves two purposes protection and dissuades the opponent from planting and punching at the risk of a butt. It's the same thing as Kovalev putting his elbow up. Defense from punch and a bit of deterrent to Ward trying to close distance. The objective is to win not beat the other guy at the thing his is best at.
