Aside from that, I agree with the notion that this supposed "boxing fight" between one of the top boxing stars and one of the top UFC stars is something embarrassing FOR SPORTS IN GENERAL, and then for boxing and UFC.

BTW why doesn't this coward Floyd do it the other way around, why doesn't he fight the UFC guy in a MMA fight, without gloves and using the legs, under THEIR RULES?

The answer is simple: because Floyd is a TOTAL COWARD. He always did things to his advantage. Never ever fought outside the US. COWARD. Won very, very controversial decisions to end up "undefeated" as in Castillo 1, ODLH, Maidana and specially vs. Manny Pacquiao.

This ******ity is ridiculous and depressing for boxing. Reminds me of one of the Rocky movies where Rocky "fought" vs. Hulk Hogan. Evidently that was a circus act, probably made for charity or something.

This is ridiculous. If they are going to do this, there should be a middle ground: use gloves, but way smaller, something in between boxing and MMA. Use the legs too, maybe with some limitations. Use a ring that is not a typical boxing "ring" but it isn't a MMA "cage" either, something in between.

And last but not least, do it on a date OTHER than September 16th, the date when the most expected REAL BOXING FIGHT in years, GGG vs. Canelo, will take place.

I wish Mayweather Jr. just disappeared for good. Such a bad influence for boxing throughout his cowardly career and now this. Awful.
Mayweather is a better fighter than Pacquaio. They fought and Mayweather won. Its a fact of life, and all the *****ing in the world will never change that simple fact.

Second, this Mayweather vs McGregor fight is nothing to be so sad and angry about (as you obviously are). Is it a serious boxing match? Obviously not.

Its a novelty exhibition that will make him hundreds of millions of dollars. It will also bring lots of money into the boxing industry, get more eyes on boxing, etc. Its not bad for boxing. And you know you'll watch it.

Oscar has never gotten over that fact the he was overshadowed by Money for the majority of his career. And now his protege Canelo is unable to escape Mayweather's shadow, probably why he's so pale.

Were you born yesterday? Oscar was not 'overshadowed by Money for the majority of his career.' It was the other way around. Floyd did not become a household name until he fought Oscar. He was still calling himself "Pretty Boy" until 2007 or 2008. Floyd's former manger, James Prince, said: "He knows he couldn't draw flies to a dumpster until he beat Oscar De La Hoya. I know this is true because I was managing him when he couldn't sell out his hometown of Grand Rapids or the San Francisco Auditorium, which only seats 6,000 people."

Oscar was 100% right in everything he said. Nothing he said hasn't already been said by fans, written by journalists, or stated by analyst's from boxing and MMA. He is speaking from a fan perspective. Problem is he is also a promoter and every promoter is 2 faced and if they can make money off it would be a part of it and just grin their teeth the entire way. You can try and bash the messenger because of that all you want but the message is still true. And Dana knows this fight is a joke and truly wants no part of sending his fighters into boxing rings to get embarrassed. Dana don't want this fight but he's got a monster he can't control and McGregor was threatening to make this fight with or without the UFC. Rather then it get ugly with UFC suing McGregor and courts in their contracts which opens up a whole can of worms they took the lesser of 2 evils. Worked out a deal to take a major percent of mcgregor purse to allow him to go fight in another sport.

McGregor knows he can't win and if he was serious about competing in boxing he would do what Jordan did and try and work himself up in that sport like everyone else. Jordan foolishly thought since he dominated basketball he could just do the same in baseball and quickly found out in the minors he wasn't very good against professional ball players. Even the best of the best young amateurs turn pro and need what 15-20 low level fights to work their way up before they face a single world class opponent. Mcgregor who has never fought would get schooled by a mid level boxers let alone world class opponent and he is skipping all that and his first fight against a Hall of Famer and the best boxer on the planet? It's like Jordan being allowed to sign on with the Yankees to play in the middle of the world series. That's a joke. The fight honestly shouldn't even be sanctioned if the joke happens it should just be an exhibition and not count as a professional fight.

              1) Oscar is a two-faced slut, he would make Canelo/McGregor in a heartbeat

              2) Mayweather/McGregor is completely irrelevant, to boxing..... but it will be a HUGE event

              3) Canelo/Golovkin is an excellent fight, it has good divisional relevance and it will be a good style matchup..... but it won't sell half the tickets that Mayweather/McGregor will sell

Golovkin is not a draw, Canelo thinks he is..... Mayweather and McGregor are HUGE

This is an exhibition boxing match.

I've seen Rugby Teams play cricket against Active International Cricketers and people who follow Rugby and Cricket enjoy the show because they know what it really is, an exhibition.

Now here we are, reading discussion about how an exhibition boxing match is no good.

I wouldn't mind seeing this exhibition and that won't stop me from wanting to watch real fights like Kovalev-Ward or GGG-Canelo and any other for that matter.

                Question:
Would boxing fans around the world stop watching boxing if the Mayweather-McGregor got made?

Really ??? Either u started following boxing after '08 or u just DKSAB . Floyd Never overshadowed Oscar it was vice versa . Mayweather Needed the Oscar fight to become a star . U might wanna consult with your father or uncle before saying some nonsense kid.
Floyd had the skills but not the fans.

I do see where Oscar is coming from on this. It does hurt the sport insofar as being a side show to a much anticipated fight. Mayweather vs. McGregor is the "bearded" lady at the carnival.
