Stevenson is the most valuable payday with the greatest reward after the Kovalev fight. So any other non-sense excuses by Ward is just avoidance.
Stevenson fought mandatory challenger Bellew. Hopkins was his second mandatory, but Hopkins fleed to HBO with both IBF & WBA belts. Third mandatory was Jean Pascal, which scream to have 50% purse before turning down his own WBC position to fight Kovalev for 40%. Fourth mandatory was Kovalev, when he was a free agent after the Pascal fight, but team Kovalev turn down this purse bid, the 2 others after that; also rejected the networks association, even avoid a Live HBO ring face-to-face with Max Kellerman in the middle.
But some people still wonder why Stevenson didn't fought his mandatory or complains about his actual opposition. It's easy to play with perception, and Ward used it to minimize the importance of setting up an Undisputed matchup against the lineal champ Stevenson.
As long as Stevenson metabolism appears strong and sharp, they will do their best in trying to convince the audience Stevenson doesn't worth the shot.
But I'm glad Stevenson is loud & clear about it, because unless a reporter ask them the question; Kovalev like Ward never touch that "Undisputed" subject.
Let's see...
