Comments Thread For: Kovalev's Trainer Jackson Tried To Jump Ship To Andre Ward's Team?

In less than three weeks, one of the most anticipated fights of the year will take place when Andre Ward (31-0, 15 KOs) steps in the ring with Sergey Kovalev (30-1, 26 KOs) for a second time. Their HBO Pay-Per-View fight takes place on June 17th, from the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. The first fight, which took place last November at T-Mobile Arena, saw Ward survive an early knockdown to win a very close twelve round unanimous decision to capture Kovalev's IBF, WBA, WBO light heavyweight titles.

It's a lot worse than I thought. It's weird because "Kovalev won" and got "robbed", why get rid of the trainer who helped you "win"? Trainer-switching is a sign of lack of confidence in a fighter. Trying to put the blame on everyone else but himself. Team Ward did good on not that accepting Jackson in the team and the explanation as to why makes sense.

Wow, I didn't think things were that bad for Jackson and Team Kovalev.

That's not right. Very disturbing to read about this coming out of Kovalev's side. Very disturbing.

Is Kovalev that much of a douchebag ******? Wow

Things must have been really bad and personal if Jackson was about to go to the opposite corner of the man Kovalev is rematching. Wow

Just dirty, shisty shyt all around

I think Kovalev has made it pretty clear his opinions on guys that look like JDJ and Ward. It's not out of the ordinary for an employer to hire someone they don't like. JDJ is his "whipping boy", and he's tired of it.

If Kovalev gets his ass handed to him this time he only has himself to blame.

Not a good look, not a good look at all.

Jackson has beeeeen very quite compared to the build up to the 1st fight. He has not said a word. No matter what is going on between Jackson and team Kov, jumping ship to the opposite corner is just not right, I don't understand how Kov would take him back after that- knowing that your trainer not only wanted to step down but to also go help out the enemy. Disappointing from Jackson, that means that he could do this to any of his fighters that he he does not want to work with. He should just walk away from team Kov completely.

Jackson was not even giving Kov proper advise in the first fight, if you watched the in between round footage he looked kind of lost and just tried to act like everything was going to plan. Compare that to the way Virgil was coaching Ward in between rounds in order for him to make the necessary adjustments and take the 2nd half of the fight.
