The day is here, it's time to shut up, glove up, and put up. This is what boxing needs, fights like this.

The problem with Kell Brook is that he has failed to show up many times. The Porter fight was an absolute terrible showing and you know it.Good article, but you're going to have to explain to me how you see Kell Brook as a stepping stone fight to Shawn Porter, let alone Garcia. Thurman, maybe, although I think he's a loss waiting to happen in the same way Garcia was.
I realise this fight is all about Spence to you lot over there, and Brook is just another fighter and the guy standing between him and his destiny, but you lot really don't rate Kell Brook at all, do you?
Every article I've read heavily hypes every aspect of Spence's skills, yet the best we can hope for is a 'he did ok against GGG for a few rounds' in favour of Kell. No analysis of what he might bring to the fight, his skill, strengths, experience.
Kell has been overlooked by everyone since this fight has been made and this article is no exception.
As a Brook fan I really hope Spence has been 'looking forward' to fights with Thurman, Pacquiao, Khan, Porter, Garcia etc as much as the rest of you.
Spence doesn't "Linebacker" in like Porter does yet has the same level of knockout power. Also, Spence is a body snatcher on levels we haven't seen since Mike McCallum - as Foreman would say, "the body don't move".
Brook's #1 advantage here is speed. He has to stay away from that power and box smart, like Algieri tried to do. But we saw what happened when Spence caught the body.
Unless Brook holds on for dear life like he did against Porter, I don't see this ending well for him.Comment

No one is 'expecting' victory except the Spence fans, or so it seems to me. The whole point of my post is you lot have this down as a foregone conclusion.
Yeah there are a few Brook fans shouting, but we're dwarfed by the weight of the hype train that Spence has become.

Great analysis, and I've no problem with Spence being the pick when posters know their boxing and can put forward a decent analysis.I'm not 'over there' or American, but I'm aligned with Brook just being a slightly higher stepping stone for Spence on the way to the rest.
I'm old (and cranky), and this reminds me of Minter/Hagler (not the boxers, but the lead-up to the fight). Minter was being hyped in the UK press and lots in the UK gave him a shot, meantime I was telling my buddies 'have you seen this Hagler guy fight ? Minter's going to get slaughtered'.
I rate Brook higher than Minter, the gap between Spence and Brook isn't as wide as I thought Hagler-Minter was, but Brook will be shown up for what he is, a very good and skilled boxer with a great heart, who just happened to run into someone special today.
(edit: and no, I didn't rate Lacy at all. And when Kell points to the weight drain later, it won't be an 'excuse', he'll be rightly identifying what weakened him)
edit 2: back to the article, few 'wonder aloud' how Spence would do with Khan, unless its what round Khan would get Caneloed.
I'm completely 50:50 on this fight outcome, but of course I hope Brook does it.Comment

Disagree on Spence and Porter having similar power. Spence hits way, way harder. For example, Porter when 12 rounds with Broner and never had AB in serious trouble...but Spence dropped Broner with sparring gloves on. If Spence catches Brook, it will feel quite similar to what Kell was feeling his last fight. The problem with Kell Brook is that he has failed to show up many times. The Porter fight was an absolute terrible showing and you know it.

Agree about the speed. Kell's best chance is to use his speed to be first, to overcome Spence's reach advantage with his own jab and to get in and out throwing in combination. Kell must box smart and keep the fight in the middle of the ring.
I don't thing holding will work here like it worked with Porter. First of all, Spence is very good inside and has been known to throw crushing short distance punches even in close and apparently wrapped up. Second, I think Spence's folks are quite aware of the tactic used against Porter and will not allow the referee to gloss over excessive clinching. Kell will be warned and will get points deducted if this is part of his gameplan.Comment

I'm pulling for Brook to win this, people sleep way too much on him, as this article proves. The guy deserves credit for what he's achieved so far and hopefully he'll get that if he beats Spence. Then again, the media will probably pull a Lacy on him and say Spence was never that good.Comment
