Boxing is doing quite well in many countries including UK, Mexico, Japan, Argentina and several other Latin America countries. But it has seen better days in the U.S. The rise of football, soccer, and other sports, as well as video games, social media, and myriad other distractions, have relegated boxing to a niche sport.

I don't think any single fight or single boxer will revive it. The generations coming up don't much care for boxing as a sport. We will continue to see "boxing events" from time to time, but these will not revive the sport as a whole.

Most boxers make chump change, closer to minimum wage when you consider time spent training and out of pocket expenses.

Boxing is doing fine in plenty of places. By tomorrow, In the UK we will have had 2 world title fights in stadiums in the last 4 weeks to a capacity of around 120,000 people in total.

In terms of reviving boxing in USA, i think it needs big high profile fight that's actually a very good fight too. Floyd v Manny was a let down for a lot of people. I'm just not sure GGG v Canelo is the fight to capture the publics imagination in USA. Both are foreigners still and the fight still doesn't have that crossover appeal like Floyd v Manny. I think it will do excellent numbers, but it won't have that appeal like Joshua v Wlad had in the UK where nobody wanted to miss it and it's all everyone was talking about that weekend.

Who knows though, there's a long time to promote it. I just think it's still one that leans a bit more more towards being a fight for boxing fans rather than casual fans, in USA anyway.
