When we think of Veit the two defeats against Joe Calzaghe are what immediately come to mind, but these are his only losses in 49 bouts, with 23 opponents halted in his 47 wins.
Veit presents problems for Brahmer. There is his experience, of course, but also his height and reach — at almost 6ft 4ins he towers over the younger man.
Against Calzaghe, Veit was outclassed, pure and simple. Veit was simply overwhelmed by a storming first-round attack in the first fight, and although he lasted into the sixth round in the rematch the Welsh fighter was just too strong for him. Veit has won two routine eight-rounders on points since the second fight with Calzaghe and now he finds himself involved in the type of contest that is likely to decide whether he stays in boxing or makes his exit.
Brahmer is known to have an excellent variety of punches that he throws with speed and accuracy from his southpaw stance and he is said to be defensively adept. Veit is a good, technical boxer with an upright style but despite a ripped physique he has seemed to lack robustness. His best win was an upset ninth-round stoppage over a faded Charles Brewer — I saw that fight on tape and the former champion was severely hammered. Veit also won a 12-round decision over the rough and rugged Kabary Salem. There is no question that he has fought in a higher class than has Brahmer.
Veit will be strongly motivated — there is a lot of pride involved here in a meeting of Universum-promoted fighters — and I think he is capable of giving Brahmer problems with his jabs and right hands on the outside.
I understand that Brahmer was looking very tired by the last round of the fight with Thysse.
In his amateur career, Brahmer scored two wins over Ricky Hatton the WBA Welterweight Champion in 1996 and defeated Felix Sturm the WBA Middleweight Champion in 1997.

Brahmer (according to Boxrec) lost a majority decision. Losing to Veit basically means he isn't really a threat to the divisional big names. Brahmer has generally been fighting bums throughout his pro career, and has now been found wanting.
Its a pity really, Brahmer looked like a very talented fighter.Comment
