What is really being sold/
What will we really be buying?
It isn't going to be an MMA match so how could it be remotely competitive?
Boxing is a sport that usually requires decades to become proficient at; even someone with other combat experience will need at least half that to be halfway decent.
We have video of Conor sparring so we know he wouldn't have a chance against a journeyman, much less an elite fighter.
Most folks, even casuals, either know this or can find out with even a cursory amount of looking into.
So, what then, will folks be actually buying?
Why are both sides so sure this is an event that can support a nine figure payday for Floyd and Conor taking home a mint as well?
The answer: Hype...and the unspoken threat(or promise).
The hype part is easy enough.
Two of the best trash talkers in human history means no shortage of sound bytes for months.
But, it is the unspoken promise that is going to make the till ring with green.
The implied threat that once it's clear to Conor that he is not going to win (and indeed may get KTFO) in a boxing match, that he will make sure he puts a hurt on Floyd even if it means a DQ and loss.
We are being peddled a WWE plotline.
And the saddest part is it is going to work and might supplant the biggest boxing match of the year while it is at it.
