Comments Thread For: Ellerbe Views Davis-Walsh as Mayweather vs. Gatti Scenario

Floyd Mayweather's advisor has compared Saturday's fight between his protege Gervonta Davis and Britain's Liam Walsh to the night Mayweather overcame Arturo Gatti. At London's Copper Box Arena, the American makes the first defence of his IBF super-featherweight title while fighting for the first time outside the USA. The 22-year-old Davis established himself as a fighter of potentially the highest calibre when he won his title by stopping Puerto Rico's Jose Pedraza in January, and on Saturday against Walsh faces his greatest professional test.

Davis will defo need a KO to win. But that's how anyone that imagines a "Tank" victory envisions it anyway so...

It won't be like the Gatti/Mayweather fight tho.

That fight made everyone in and around his division completely and utterly duck him.

There are so many reasons why this is flawed but whatever. I get what they're trying to do with Davis.

He's going to stop Walsh anyway.

Going forward they need to pick their words more wisely. You can't use the "biggest star in boxing" line, then in the next breathe say he's not ready to fight certain guys.

It just looks ******. There was never any point in Floyd's career where I recall people saying he wasn't ready to take on a challenger.

Its plausible, the kid is very talented!

                Has speed and power!

                Works a decent jab
                And doesn't neglect the body

                But his stamina is lacking
And can be outboxed if a boxer uses his length and timing!

Good fight and I rate Walsh better than Pedraza!

Yeah I don't think Walsh is going down that easy at home.
