  • Comments Thread For: Klitschko Lands Number WBC #2 Ranking To Deontay Wilder

Former division ruler Wladimir Klitschko (64-5, 53 KOs) has been rewarded in defeat, as the World Boxing Council has appointed him as the #2 ranked challenger to current world champion Deontay Wilder (39-0, 38 KOs). As of last month, Klitschko was not ranked in the top 15 under the WBC. He did hold a number 2 ranking under the WBA and a number 3 ranking under the IBF.

Interesting situation for Klitschko. The only title he never has held is the WBC Title because his brother had that Title and now Wilder.

Klitschko may choose to go another route instead of rematching Joshua and try to become mandatory for the WBC belt.

First Ortiz, now Klitschko. Sulaiman must read Boxing Scene.

        so.....

Klitschko dominated the heavyweight division for about a DECADE, and during that time the WBC did NOT rank him.....

but now that he just lost TWICE, CONSECUTIVELY, the WBC have decided to rank and likely mandate him?

        wow

Would be another fun fight, at least as fun as any fight could be involving a boxer like Wilder who has never fought anyone or dared to be great in any way. Still he's big and powerful so it would be entertaining, but I think he would probably get knocked out again like he did in the amateurs with headgear on.

This is one of the many reasons why alphabet titles are trash.

The WBC seems to answer to Al Haymon. Al Haymon wanted to get his top heavyweight the heavyweight belt, for the sake of making $$$$$ in the big boy division down the line, but Haymon knew his best heavyweight would get knocked out by Klitschko. So, through playing the ducking waiting game for half a decade, and with the help of the WBC, they were finally able to devise a plan where Wilder could be gifted the WBC heavyweight belt without having to fight either Klitschko, or even Fury, or even Ortiz, or even anyone. It's almost funny when you think about it. And here we are like a year or two after Wilder was gifted the belt, and he still hasn't fought any of those guys afterwards neither!

The definition of a paper champ. He has an entertaining style and could be a superstar in America with the right promoter, provided he could back it up in the ring, but I guess that's the big hang up, isn't it? Still, with the right promoter, he would at least have been in big fights by now, and made a name for himself in entertaining fights, like how Klitschko earned respect for his loss to Joshua. But as it is, Wilder's career has everyone snoozing, and it's turning what should be a lit heavyweight division right now into a snoozefest too outside of the one good fight with Klitschko and Joshua.

This really could be a great division if Wilder and Ortiz were fighting, Fury and Parker were fighting, Pulev and Povetkin were fighting, just whatever. Instead, Wilder is leading the pack of ducking guys like Ortiz, so the division cannot truly come alive. I already see Ortiz slipping like crazy so they've already ruined that one great matchup, and Ortiz was one of the only intriguing guys in the division outside of the Big Two in Joshua and Klitschko, so now what people were saying was a deeper heavyweight division than in years actually isn't so deep anymore because they let time do its thing without making the fights that should have been made.

It sucks though because Wilder at 6'9, with speed and power... he could have been in great fights already! I know they know his chin sucks and that's why they're protecting him, but even chinny guys can win big fights especially if they have length, speed, and power like Wilder! Why do they keep protecting him? He's supposed to be heavyweight champ of the world but they treat him like he's babyweight champ of the stroller and crib and carseat. They treat him with baby gloves. Put him in with Ortiz by the end of 2017 otherwise he'll be so old and slowed down I won't even care no more! Stop ducking!

I think i have a solution for all the ducking that's going on with PBC fighters 175 lbs and above. Y'all tell me what y'all think. See Adonis Stevenson refuses to fight anyone good at 175, and Wilder refuses to fight anyone good at heavyweight, except now he's calling out Tony Bellew. But guess what we know about Tony Bellew? Adonis Stevenson kicked his ass! So if Deontay Wilder is only willing to fight blown up light heavyweights, how about we get Wilder vs Stevenson then? At least Stevenson beat Bellew! At least Stevenson has speed and power. If he lands his best left hand, he could definitely put Wilder to sleep, because Wilder doesn't have a great chin! Obviously Wilder's size will help him, but it wouldn't be impossible for Stevenson to win that fight.

Bellew though? Bellew doesn't have the speed or power, so that would just be a total mismatch imo. So why not at least make it Stevenson instead? That way, you kill two birds with one stone! Y'all know the kind of bird I'm talking about. Duck birds. I can even see the poster and the tagline now!

More like pull a Rid**** Bowe and drop the belt in a trash bin like Bowe did when Lennox Lewis was the mandatory challenger.

Funny thing is that when Bowe did that and when Canelo vacated and dropped the belt. Both Lennox and Triple G were given the belt right away. WBC staying true to form all these years later, Lol.

Lol, Wilder better try to unify with Parker to over rule the mandatories, then after that unify with Joshua.
