Contracts haven't been finalized, but Barrera and Smith are expected to open an HBO tripleheader from The Forum that night. Their 10-round, 175-pound fight will be part of a telecast that is expected to include a WBC-mandated super featherweight title bout between Mexico's Miguel Berchelt (31-1, 28 KOs), the defending champion, and Japan's Takashi Miura (31-3-2, 24 KOs), the WBC's No. 1 contender.

Loma is supposed to fight in July, Berchelt on this card makes me think that hbo might be trying to set up Loma-Berchelt fight.

Damn this will probably be Joe's hardest fight and I can't imagine it being very lucrative.... dude at least deserved a title shot and a nice pay day for those back to back wins over fonfara and B-Hop.

It's hard being on the shelf. This is definitely a tough fight, but he's shown some guts. Barrera will give him all he can handle for sure.
