  • Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: Canelo-GGG Will Showcase Golden Boy's Top Position

After some ups and downs in the last few years, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya feels strongly that his brand is back on top as the premier promotional company in boxing. On September 16th, Golden Boy will be the lead promoter for the biggest boxing event of the year when Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs) challenges IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs).

As long a Canelo doesn't leave the company. GBP should be around for the duration of his career. This will give them the chance to find new stars along the way and stay competitive.

Not sure if they'll maintain big sales with the Heavyweights heating up, but Canelo will be relevant as long as he's fighting.

DELA HATER lost his fighters and now CANELO is his last meal ticket. If lil g KO's CANELO early then GBP is pretty much finished!

            You can't be irrelevant at 140, 147, 154, 168, 175, 200, and 200+, and be the "Top Dog."

Short of suffering a brutal KO, Canelo's (& thus GBP) stock will only rise.
Lets face it, he has the built in fanbase, taken on tough assignments (back on track at least), long as he goes out & competes he'll still be viewed as a hero. Even in a loss, simply mend up with a couple slam dunks if immediate rematch doesn't pan out, will still draw big & no worse off. If he wins this? Could be career defining & pretty much cement a legacy at 26.

Props to DLH on the making this fight & the ESPN deal actually. Still only one Golden Goose atm though, GBP gotta bring in more talent. Stiff tests ahead for Canelo & won't be surprised to see him take a couple losses in the next couple years. Lot of talent on the horizon to contend with at MW with several eliminators being ordered, more soon to move up for the money.

How are they at the top when they only have 1 fighter? Hell Haymon could claim that seeing as 3 of Canelo's last 5 PPVs were with Haymon second tier fighters. Out of the other two Liam Smith fight was a dud and Cotto/RocNation walked away with 75% of everything.

Or it could be the beginning of the end of golden boy if Canelo takes a beating. Golden boy with Canelo is similar to what Don King promotions became with Trinidad towards the end. 1 big name star and once that star took a bad loss, the entire promotional company began a downwards spiral because they didn't have anyone else that could remotely be considered a superstar.

Listen to these GB haters man the hate is strong.

And the only reason for it is cuz its a latino promoter on top of boxing right now.

Had dlh been a white man or black man he wouldn't receive no where near the hate that he gets around this pro white and black panther forum .

Live with it u racist fuuucks.
