World Boxing Super Series Potential Selections

So as most of you probably noticed the World Boxing Super Series finally decided upon the divisions it'll be using for Season 1 of their tournament. The two divisions chosen were cruiserweight (200lbs) & super middleweight (168lbs).

The actual selection process for the 8 fighters in each division (+subs) will begin soon with early July being the official reveal date for those selections (I'm hoping for leaks or early reveals). That's also when the top 3 seeded fighters will be picking their first opponent & the bracket will be fixed.

The first round bouts will happen in Sept. 2017, the semifinals in early 2018 & the finals in May 2018.

Anyway the selection process of this will likely define how seriously this tournament will be taken in the future by fans so I wanted to setup a thread about who are the fighters eligible & how I rank those fighters in skill, appeal + rankings, like I suspect the WBSS will be looking at their potential selections in this tournament.

The only prerequisite for this tournament is that one hold a abc belt or be ranked in the top 15 of an abc groups rankings. Based upon that info there are currently 36 cruiserweight & 38 super middleweight boxers eligible for the first season of the WBSS.

Its a time consuming, boring + a bit of a hassle to rank fighters 1 by 1 so I simply tried to breakdown the fighters into tiers of fighters (usually 8 boxers per tier) that I felt they fit into based on the skill, appeal + rankings criteria I decided to go by.

My main curiosity with this is a personal one. I'm wanting to see what I feel now as to the best participants in this tournament would be vs what this tournament actually looks like in early July when I end up discovering there are 7 first tier boxers included & 1 second tier or 3 second tier boxers & 5 third & fourth tier boxers or whatever the reality ends up being.

Any thoughts on this tournament, my tier rankings (which I completed in about 15 minutes so there could be some dark horses or more sellable guys I'm underrating & I'm open to altering as some May fights happen & I discover new info about any particular guy) or your expectations on who ends up in this tournament or doesn't?

Nice thread. I like the cocept of the wbss for sure. It shoulldnt be as drawn out as the supersix, but injuries might unfortunately again play a factor.

A little help in your selection process:
Mikkel Kessler will get a wild card for 168. Patrick Nielsen will not get in (I'm sure).
Groves and Zeuge is also in. Abraham is possible but not certain imo. That will probably be the roster from sauerland at 168.

First 3 guys in the WBSS CW tournament released. So far 2 first tier selections & 1 second tier selections so looking good.

By signing Gassiev (24-0, 17 KOs), Briedis (22-0, 18 KOs) and Wlodarczyk (53-3-1, 37 KOs) to participate, organizers have landed three of the premier cruiserweights in the world -- and made a title unification bout part of the tournament.

Looking real nice. Damn, people **** on 168, but looking at the 1st and 2nd tier of guys there, its actually got a lot of good fighters. Certainly a solid top 10.
