The PPV model in the USA is and the fanbase has radically died off, If you don't have a big named Mexican/British star you might as well forget about making big bucks, now boxing is basically a bunch of over privileged Yanks getting overpaid more than their worth.
An example of that would be Ward getting paid more than the unified champion in Kovalev.
In short, I think he is still right, America use to have the biggest fanbase of boxing, but now that big fanbase has divided and went on to focus on all many other sports.
The Yanks do record numbers for the super bowl, but terrible numbers for boxing events the biggest American star is Ward and he couldn't even sell out his hometown stadium, that to me is alarming.
