Comments Thread For: Abel Sanchez Smiles: Let Team Canelo Think Golovkin is Declining

Abel Sanchez, head trainer of IBO, IBF, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs), is a very happy man. This past Saturday night, it was officially announced that Golovkin would finally meet Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs) on September 16th. HBO Pay-Per-View will carry the fight. The location has yet to be determined.

Golovkin probably hasn't declined, but Sanchez sure has. "Wait for him to walk into it." Wonder what brilliant gameplan he'll come up with this time.

... the size let alone, Jacobs' movement and speed were very effective... and when switching to southpaw he managed to nearly nullify GGG's jab...

I don't think Team Canelo thinks GGG is declining, they just think their fighter has reach the point where he wins this fight.

He nearly got KTFO switching southpaw.

... of course: but this comes with the "whole package"... it was a straight right (by the manual)... in fact it was a double right...

(but Jacobs switched even after the KD...)

Most of the people making that claim are the GGG fans looking for an excuse in the event that he loses.

Golovkin probably feels bored as a boxer being restricted challenges. Comes into the gym expecting different routines and all we ever see in workouts are hooks...nothing more, usually against strategically picked opposition. But if it's a challenge, "oh he will use his jab.."

I think he does look a bit slower. Nobody is as athletic as they were in their twenties, not even Floyd or Bernard, who looked good with age. But GGG is far from shot.
