Also those disappointing PPV numbers sobered them up to reality of what GGG is worth made them stop pricing themselves out. They finally bent over at the negotiations table. It's called accepting your B side position.
Let's get something straight, WHO really knows what the offer was, unless you're in GGG or Canelo's camp. All we know that it was a flat fee rate that OScar "Claims" it was 8 figures.

This is my opinion, it felt like Oscar was using the Mayweather strategy by giving an offer GGG most likely wouldn't accept all while delaying the fight till GGG got older and showed signs of slippage. At the same time Canelo was getting better and better the last few years.

Oscar saw the HUGE drop in PPV buys from Canelo vs Cotto sep 2015 to Smith Sep 2016. And knew he was losing Canelo's fanbase if he didn't act quickly.

He told Canelo, lets use Chavez Jr for another cash grab in May, while this helps us fight a bigger stronger guy than what we are use to, to get ready for GGG in September.

Don't get it twisted, this was all part of a 2 year plan for Canelo that Oscar played out perfectly (luck helped out a bit).

Don't you find it interesting that this deal came to fruition rather quickly and was signed last week b4 even the fight with Chavez? After years of not being close

Both sides did the right thing. Period.
I disagree that this is a super fight. Definitely the biggest fight in terms of hype, but a super fight involves two superstars...Golovkin is not a superstar.

I agree that both sides did the right thing...even if it was K2 that relented to the original offer. 60-40 was a big ask after the Jacobs fight.

Look at the flip side my friend...isn't it interesting that the deal was finalized before the Chavez fight and the ppv numbers are leaked. The negotiations took months...but the final deal only took two weeks?

Which side had more options? How did Golovkin get old in less than a year? Was it slippage or just better competition? He did say that his last two fights were his biggest tests.

I'm not really sure the point you're trying to make, but I'm pretty sure GGG had options, Saunders, Jacobs, Lemiuiex, even Cotto mentioned he wanted to fight him.

I honestly think GGG wanted to do the fight with Saunders, but Oscar hated the idea of that because, like I said earlier he had a plan in place for GGG vs Canelo Sep. Since they'd have less time to promote it, GGG might get hurt or even lose. GGG actually created a little bit of leverage for himself by negotiating that potential fight.
