Comments Thread For: The Big Reveal: Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin

By Corey Erdman - Here's the truth: Fans on Saturday night were treated to a live showing of Canelo Alvarez's first sparring session in preparation for Gennady Golovkin. As Alvarez battered Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. around the ring for 12 rounds, HBO commentators feigned disappointment in the lack of actual competition in the bout. Max Kellerman specifically bashed Chavez, a man who had just absorbed 145 power punches...

great article, and i agree how the air of invincibility is true for most fighters. however, in the case of pacman, he is still revered as a great, one of the best ever to lace them up. so what if he lost of mayweather - the greatest of his generation. same goes for roy jones jr. lost to tarver but is still considered one of the best ever. only middleweight to be heavyweight champion. also for sugar ray leonard, lost to duran but came back and beat duran, then became the middle and super middleweight champion. another legend who didnt let a loss affect his greatness. i believe its how we respond to defeats that shape us. not all of us can have unblemished careers. however in the case of someone like prince naseem, his loss to barrera changed him forever. everyone deals with adversity differently, for me, the champs who have faced defeats and still gone on to become great shows a lot about their character and personality. sorry if i went on for too long there lol i love boxing and combat sports in general.

Golden Boy Promotions should give everyone who bought the PPV on Saturday, a 50% discount for the Canelo vs. GGG fight! That entire event on Saturday was horrible! I feel bad for the Mexican fight fans! Chavez Jr. should be arrested for fraud! After Fonfara and Canelo, he should never be allowed to fight again!

Chavez Jr should just realize he doesn't have a gladiator spirit in him to box

As far as the post fight shenanigans....

I thought it was kind of corny to be honest
I agree with that dude from the first mail, I expected Vince to come out

Like the way they set that up let me know all along they been made a deal weeks in advance and that they take the fans on a ride and make them argue against each other as if Canelo and Oscar are douche bags who are stringing GGG along, when really GGG been submitted and was waiting to strut like vince to the ring

None of these dudes deserve our praise cause they all suckers who pretend like they are fighting for glory but really making deals asap for the money but act as if they are in strife

I'm not paying for that **** in September, **** that

Well at least Oscar kept his word, September

Why was anyone suprised by the outcome of this fight?? I think the only surprise I saw was the lack of real punching power by Canelo. If he had any real power he would have knocked Chavez out or at least busted him up far worse than he was playing the role of the six million dollar punching bag. Now this will lead up to the really big payday against Golovkin who should beat the tar out of Canelo when they meet. I still expect Canelo's camp to delay and postpone the fight a time or two trying to get an edge over the past his prime GGG.

There were reasons Alvarez was a heavy favorite vs Chavez. He was seen as younger, faster and more skilled than Chavez. Add to that the fact that Alvarez had faced better competition and that Chavez's style was made to order for him and a glorified sparring session was to be expected.
To make sure there were no surprises, Alvarez contracted the fight at a catch weight that had his opponent basically spending his entire camp focused on making the weight. Chavez was in over his head to begin with but Alvarez sealed his doom with the catch weight.

C'mon man. I thought it was kinda funny the way things played out. Don't take it too personal man. The fight is finally happening. That's what matters.
